Season 2 of “Riverdale” ends with a bang.
The CW’s neon-dipped soap opera has brought a crazy twist in every episode this season. Long lost brothers? Sure. Serial killer fathers? Absolutely.
But Wednesday night’s season finale, “Chapter Thirty-Five: Brave New World,” throws a curveball in the form of a minor character you forgot about: Cassidy.
Archie wins the election to be Riverdale High School’s student body president — but right as he’s getting sworn in, he’s dramatically arrested in front of the whole school.
Hiram Lodge (Mark Consuelos) smirks from the shadows, leaving no doubt as to who orchestrated this.
The charges? Murdering Cassidy.
Cassidy (Harrison MacDonald) was a store clerk whom the gang met when they took a trip to the Lodge’s weekend cabin back in “Chapter Twenty-Seven: The Hills Have Eyes.”
After Cassidy burgles their place, Archie chases him through the woods until they ran into Andre (Stephan Miers), the Lodge’s capo.
Andre tells Archie to leave, and a shot rings out. The implication is that Andre killed Cassidy.
Andre is also ostensibly dead by the end of Season 2 — but since this is “Riverdale,” he might have recovered off-screen for the purposes of dramatically reappearing in Season 3. Maybe he was Betty’s long-lost brother all along.
Regardless, Archie didn’t do the deed, but as Season 2 ends, he’s in hot water for it. Maybe he’ll share a prison cell with Betty’s father.
